Advanced Placement:
The debate scheduled for Monday will have to be postponed until Tuesday. Monday we will practice and finalize the arguments.

Outside reading assignment is due on Tuesday (or earlier).

Literary Analysis is due on Wednesday.

Begin reading The Fountainhead. Usually we do Brideshead Revisited first but because of time constrictions, we will work on Fountainhead first. Book One should be read by November 6. If you did not bring your book home, it can be found on line.

English Literature:

Please Note: Though I bought text books for the classroom, It would

be a good thing if everyone had an individual book just for situations like this. I checked Amazon, and it has used books for sale for $3.19 plus shipping. They are probably very used, but slightly used books are available for a bit more. The title is England in Literature Hamlet edition. ( Be sure you get the Hamlet edition) ISBN 0-673-27057-2. Our class book is the 1987 copy, but

though the newer books have a different cover and different pages,                                            the material is essentially the same.

Assignments: In class last week I read and gave notes on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales including definitions for satire, sarcasm, libel, and slander. Notes also included descriptions of The Knight, The Squire, The Yeoman, and the Nun. (starting on page 74). Read and be sure to copy good notes and to get explanations.

We also practiced the Prologue. We have done all of the lines. You need to be able to recite them before card marking.

Twenty note cards are also due by Wednesday. You must have one good quote from each of  the books you had for your bibliography cards. Note Well: These notes must be about the topics the author wrote about or about how these topics are seen in the time in which he lived. For example: your author might have written about the politics of his day and been highly critical of King or parliament. You would need quotes that talk about this or about the actual king or government of his day.  Notes about the author’s life should be saved for later. They will only be used for the introduction of your paper, so you will need only about 6 or 7 facts.

If you check a source and it does not have information on these topics, you may need to get another source. If so, be sure to write out a bibliography card for that source.

Both 20 note cards and 20 bib cards to go with them are due on Wednesday.

Monday and Tuesday we will continue to practice the Prologue and go to the library for more notes. If we cannot schedule the library, I will be reading the description of the Monk and the Friar on pages 76-77.
