Text: Precalculus with Limits, second edition.2011, ISBN:10: 0-538-73659-3, by Larson: Brooks/Cole Publishing.
Required Materials: textbook, paper, pencils and graphing calculator. It is recommended the student use TI-84 Plus/TI-84 Plus Silver Edition graphing calculators
Course Description: This course will provide the background for more advanced, college-level math courses and the trigonometric knowledge. It will also give students a basic review of function groups for college placement testing. We will cover linear, quadratic, polynomial functions, exponential, logarithms, and trigonometric functions, polar coordinates, sequences and series, along with probability and limits.
Grading Procedure: Points are given for work completed, (problems must show all work to receive full credit), and quarter grades are calculated as a percentage of the points received to the total points possible. Points will be given for the following: tests, quizzes, homework, homework quizzes, daily preparation questions and participation.
Homework: Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. I expect that it be completed for the following class day. We will go over the answers and any problems that students may be having difficulty with the following day. Homework will be turned in for credit at the beginning of the hour on a regular basis and problems must show all work to receive full credit. No late assignments will be accepted.
Quizzes: There will be both announced and unannounced quizzes given on a regular basis and will reflect that week's homework assignments. Students will be required to show their calculations for full credit.
Tests: Tests are not limited to chapter tests and will be given approximately every other week. Students must show their calculations to receive full credit.
Daily Worksheet/Preparation Questions: Daily Worksheet/Preparation questions are given at the beginning of the hour to be completed during the class period. Students are required to complete these questions as part of their daily assignments and turn them in the following day with their homework to receive credit.
Re-takes: Any test score below a 65% may be retaken to raise the grade up to a 65%, but must be re-taken within two weeks from when the original test was given back.
Classroom Procedural Rules:
*Students are required to bring all daily materials outlined above, including their graphing calculator, to complete each daily assignment and will receive a zero for any assignment that cannot be completed due to lack of materials.
*Any student removed from the class for behavioral issues and cannot complete the daily assignment will receive a zero for that assignment.
*Any student not in their seat when attendance is taken will receive a tardy for the day.
*No late assignments will be accepted with the exception of excused absences.
*Students must stay in their seats the entire classroom period unless otherwise told.
*There is allowed one voice at a time.
Absences: A student is responsible for collecting his/her assignments ahead of time when it is known that they will be absent from the class. In the event of a sick day or a lengthy absence, students are responsible for collecting missing assignments and due dates will adjust according to school procedure.
