Course Description:
This course introduces students to principles of basic skills, study skills, and self-management skills. Throughout the course, students will discover and hone their own unique talents and skills in order to achieve success in all subject areas. Through class lectures and discussion students will learn the key objectives to becoming the student they are capable of being. The majority of the class will be spent on charting individual progress through weekly grade checks, self-reflection, and effective communication between students and teacher.
This course is designed to assist the students in understanding their particular learning styles while helping them to become independent learners.
Course Goals
*Students will become fully integrated into the Lansing Catholic Community
*Students will work on mastering:
Basic skills-reading math, and writing
Study skills--Memorizing, note-taking, using the library, problem solving, etc.
Self-management skills-- Gaining awareness, setting goals, managing time, master hw, noting success, changing bad habits, speaking in public, communicating with peers, teachers, and parents, making and keeping agreements
* Students will become more effective at studying, taking tests, doing math, writing, improving memory, managing time, speaking in public, getting along with other people, and much more.

What You Can Expect From ME
Respect for everyone's personal dignity;
Understanding that the student has other classes and a life beyond school;
Preparedness and faithfulness to the spirit of the Catholic Church's teaching and mission to usher in the Kingdom of God for all, and that my teaching style will reflect those principles.
What I Expect From YOU:
Take responsibility for your own life;
Turn things in completely and on time;
Ask questions if things don't make sense, and then ask again;
Respect each other by listening, not being argumentative just to be a pain, and follow directions.
Grading/Assignments:
Lansing Catholic's grading scale, as it appears in the Student Handbook will be used.
Classroom Rules
Respect is the key here!
Disrespectful, racist, sexist, or other derogatory comments will not be tolerated.
The 3 R's: Respect for yourself, Respect for others, and take Responsibility for your actions
Follow directions the first time they are given.
Be in seat when the bell rings or you are considered TARDY.
Bring Agenda, all texts and all folders with loose leaf paper to class each day
NO Gum;
Be in dress code
**Severe Clause-Any infraction that stops class from functioning (i.e. fighting, swearing, cheating, name calling, insubordination, etc.) will result in an immediate trip to Mr. Kimball's office and a call to parents. No Warning! **
