Our House System creates a smaller community within the larger school, ensuring that every student is known, supported, and challenged as they grow into faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Through Houses, Rodzinkas, and student leadership, students experience belonging, mentorship, and healthy competition that shapes character and builds lifelong relationships.

A Community Within the Community

Houses bring together students across grade levels and provide a sense of identity, unity, and shared purpose throughout the school year. Every student and faculty member belongs to one of four Houses, each named after a saint whose life reflects faith, courage, and service:

Leadership Within Every House

Students play an active role in shaping the culture of Lansing Catholic through the Student Leadership Team.

Elected student representatives from each House serve as leaders who:

  • Advise school administration
  • Plan and lead major school events
  • Serve as role models within their Houses
  • Strengthen school spirit and unity

These students grow in confidence, responsibility, and servant leadership while learning how to lead with integrity and purpose.

Rodzinka

A Little Family That Makes a Big Difference

At the heart of the House System is the Rodzinka, a Polish word meaning “little family.”

Each Rodzinka is a small group of approximately 16 to 20 students from different grade levels who meet regularly with an adult leader. These groups gather to build relationships, attend Mass together, reflect on faith, and receive mentorship.

Rodzinkas typically meet three times per week for about 35 minutes, with one day dedicated to Mass. This consistent rhythm creates trust, accountability, and meaningful connection between students and faculty.

Rodzinka ensures that every student has a place where they are known by name, valued for who they are, and supported through the ups and downs of high school life.

The Great Crux

Excellence With Honor

An essential part of social formation is learning how to compete well. Through House competitions held throughout the year, students are challenged to pursue excellence while demonstrating respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The Great Crux is the award given annually to the House that earns the most points across academic, service, athletic, and community-building activities. The year culminates in the multi-day Cougar Games, where Houses come together in spirited competition and celebration.

Winning matters, but how students compete matters more.

 Why the House System Matters

The House System is one of the most powerful ways Lansing Catholic forms students socially, emotionally, and spiritually. It teaches students:

Lansing Catholic isn’t just a school you attend — it’s a community that meets you where you are, then helps you grow into who you’re meant to be.
